We are staging a 90-minute dance-theater production titled, “Twilight of the Empress” based on a Sufi wisdom story involving Iranian mythological themes exploring how human beings can process and come to terms with personal and collective trauma, injustice, grief, and loss.

“Winning Against Trauma," organized by NPHC (National Pan-Hellenic Council San Fernando Chapter), aims to address various facets of mental health, including stigma, access to resources, and diverse perspectives from mental health professionals, community leaders, and mental health survivalists. We will also offer practical tools for self-care and stress-anxiety management, showcase the power of poetic expression and coping strategies, and incorporate culturally relevant practices. All this will allow us to provide an inclusive and supportive space that addresses mental health challenges and the resilience of the African-American community.
Neighborhood Wellness at the Watts-Willowbrook Farmers’ Market
Neighborhood Wellness workshops will feature a variety of mental health and nutritional strategies. Participants will be presented with a map of community resources near the market, including mental health, physical health, housing, career, food, and social support. The event includes an educational game featuring wellness strategies with chances to win prizes. Handouts will be provided on nutritional and mental health techniques. There will be opportunities to sign up for CalFresh. Current CalFresh recipients are able to redeem their benefits and receive Market Match dollars for fresh fruits and vegetables.
Grief and burnout are rarely addressed in this work. In addition to learning new skills, these events will provide opportunities for stakeholders, the community and our participants to not only have a moment of respite, but to be celebrated, encouraged, and reminded it is “ok” to discuss mental health. Within this set up, all will have an ability to forge meaningful connections and support.

EMBODY: Empowering Mental Health through Community Wellness and Creativity
"EMBODY: Empowering Mental Health through Community Wellness and Creativity" is a day-long retreat that features sessions/playshops, panels, demonstrations and other interactive activities that extend beyond solely teaching and talking about mental health, to embodying the practices and tools that will help the community transform their mental health. We intend for participants to leave this experience with a wealth of knowledge AND tangible methods that, when consistently practiced, will positively impact their mental health for the long term.
A four-hour community-based art event to bring awareness, and increase access to, mental health services and resources for community members. Through live-art activities and an open mic platform for music and poetry, we will also focus on decreasing stigma and discrimination associated with mental health. We will have food trucks and transportation for those with physical disabilities. Information on mental health screenings, harm reduction services, and education and services for Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment will be available. Participants will contribute to a sculptural installation of a city/neighborhood that will reflect their perspectives on mental health and wellness.
The Celebrating Words Festival provides an accessible, brave, and dynamic space that encourages creativity and supports intellectual growth and healing, in the vital and unique way that arts and literacy do. This outdoor literacy and art festival hosts: over 20 different creative art workshops, a 1,300+ book giveaway for all ages, a resource fair with local organizations, a food and art market, and a live music show all under one roof in the heart of the San Fernando Valley.
TBRI, a Trauma-Informed Approach Conference
Learn tools for trauma-informed connection with recovery clients and their children. The conference will focus on Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), an evidence-based, trauma-informed training model, promoting mental health with attachment-based intervention focusing on building positive relationships and improving the mental well-being of individuals who have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and trauma. Aimed to impact women in recovery, their children and the community that serve them with new healthy coping mechanisms.
Tranquility WOW Kids Camp-Animal Therapy Event
Youth will attend a day camp cultivating self-care tools to use at school, home, and in crisis. The event includes learning about farming and farm animals, upkeep, feeding, caring for animals, and goat yoga. Participants will have a safe space to engage and share experiences for stronger mental health awareness. Workshops include animal therapy with pigs, goats, and horseback riding, music therapy with drums and flutes, garden therapy sowing and seeding in the earth in WOW garden space. Wellness activities include foot soaking, herb bundling, meditation & yoga, a take-home fish aquarium, art therapy mural and/or take-home garden pot to use at home. Participants will take a short bus ride from The Wow Farm to the event space.
WOW! It's the Women's Wellness Walk and Children's Gardening Event
This event will be focused on at-risk women and wellness in Palmdale and will include access to key mental health and wellness resources, affirmations along the walk, along with interactive wellness points. Homeless and underserved children and youth will also participate in building therapeutic and healing gardens. Basic gardening and sowing into the soil and taking in the sun to designing an edible garden -- this event will provide self and community care activities and promote mental health awareness, in addition to creating greater awareness of the stigma associated mental health particularly among underserved populations. Wellness kits, and locally grown produce will also be offered.

The initiative on Intergenerational Mental Health Stigma Among Minority Male Populations aims to support minority males who face heightened mental health challenges yet often refrain from seeking help due to stigma. Through the collaboration of community leaders, mental health experts,and young men, TDD endeavors to emphasize the significance of mental health, combat stigma, and encourage seeking assistance. By tackling mental health stigma, empowering participants, fostering help-seeking behaviors, dispelling misconceptions, and enhancing access to culturallyappropriate mental health services, the initiative strives to diminish disparities in mental health outcomes among minority male populations.
This event will actively engage diverse communities in promoting mental health awareness, fostering well-being, and supporting access to services while nurturing community connections. Specifically, the LGBTQIA+ Mental Health Symposium addresses the unique challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community, such as elevated rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide. This symposium offers a secure and inclusive environment for LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies to gain insights into mental health, exchange experiences, and access resources. On The Road Again draws older adults, 80+, out of their regular routine for a day filled with adventures and friendships. On Thursday, May 2nd, we will visit the Griffith Park Observatory planetarium. The trip includes admission, lunch at a local restaurant, snacks, music, bus bingo, and prizes. On Sunday, May 5th, After Church Talks (ACTs TM) will bring parishioners from African American churches and other faith-based communities together to engage in open discussions around mental health and the unique stigmas faced by older adults and people of faith. Mental health professionals will guide this open discussion around shared experiences and strategies for navigating life's sometimes swift transitions. ASL and Spanish language translations will be available. The event includes resource booths, a southern-catered lunch, and raffle prizes.
SET for LIFE - Love L.I.F.E. Celebration
The second Love L.I.F.E. Celebration will occur on Saturday, May 4. Families will again enjoy live performances, DJ, dancing, 9-hole miniature golf, arts and crafts, 360 photo booth, selfie zones, Domino tournament, obstacle course, and hands-on activities in a safe environment. Food trucks will serve southern-fried fish, hamburgers, nachos, hot dogs, desserts, and more. I Love Myself Festival
In celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month we are excited to produce our second annual "I Love Myself Festival." This festival is all about community togetherness, rich culture, freedom of expression, celebrating support, and resource sharing.
The festival begins with our garden stage with yoga, meditation, and workshops. The festival continues with our music stage filled with DJs and performances. We will have a kid zone, food, vendors, and a mental health resource village.
Team Saahas For Cause, with the support of Southern California Youth Cricket Academy and ABC school district, are hosting an event to spread awareness about the connection between physical and mental wellness through the popular game of cricket. We will provide coaching tutorials for youth followed by a friendly game of cricket for all. Inclusive games such as a lemon & spoon walk, relay race, three-legged race, and a sack race will take you back to your youth and help you engage in outdoor activities. Other activities will include clay therapy, Henna art, music, dance, and painting. Boxed lunch, snacks, and beverages will be available.

Day 1 - Kalusugan para sa Kapayapaan ng Sambayanan (Health for a Peaceful Community)
The first event covers a full day of activities with sign language interpretation to integrate overall wellness into community life. These mental health education topics include substance misuse, self-esteem enhancement, LGBTQ+ concerns, meditation and cancer trends in the Filipino community - with primary focus on emotional and mental health impact of cancer for patients and their caregivers. Why Mental Health Matters for Black Male Teens
We'll host an event for young men currently in high school to focus on team-building and destigmatizing mental health. Participants will compete at a local ropes course. Afterwards, participate in a conversation on the impact of social media , which will be led by Dr. Brandon Gamble, who has been awarded the Sandra Goff Award for Distinguished Service to the Profession of School Psychology in California from the California Association of School Psychologists. We'll also provide lunch, snacks, t-shirts, and self-care bags with mental health items like Mindful Talk Cards.

On Saturday, May 18, Hands4Hope LA will host its 22nd Annual Hopewalk and Kids Healthy Activity Fair. This event will consist of a 5K walk through North Hollywood as well as a Healthy Activity Fair where kids can engage in healthy activities to earn points and win prizes. Building CommUnity Mental Health and Connections
A three hour, in-language event geared towards Chinese-American older adults. Event includes mental health workshops, activities to enhance mental/physical well-being, and group games.
Increase awareness and access mental health services to deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind and deaf plus (DHH) individuals. Provide 100% access in their language, American Sign Language. The goal is to remove the stigma in the DHH community; to increase knowledge of mental health and reduce the stigma of getting help for mental health; and provide deaf-friendly materials, resources, and connections to deaf-friendly therapists and counselors.

Creating the Community and Life You Want Drum Circle
Our DFYL facilitator will be working with many minorities, including some homeless, some suffering for dual/diagnosis in Los Angeles. Our drum circle helps connect people to each other and gives them the feeling of purpose, hope, and support -- the feeling that each person and family can envision a role for themselves in our society and have a sense of greater purpose regarding contributing to their community.

The East Los Angeles Move & Groove event’s goal is to bring people with developmental and intellectual disabilities, their parents/caregivers, their neighbors and friends together for an event where they can meet others, learn about local mental health and wellness services, and engage with one another in activities and demonstrations that support and promote healthy lifestyles and well-being.
Creating the Community and Life You Want Drum Circle
Led by Steven Angel, along with DFYL facilitators, the group drumming event in Grand Park will be an all-inclusive experience that promotes a collective healing journey and helps contribute to a more harmonious and interconnected community, where those experiencing mental health issues, addiction, homelessness, and discrimination can drum in a circle along with celebrities, corporate leaders, politicians, and those who reside and work downtown.Group drumming is an immersive experience where individuals come together to create a collective rhythm. The drum has the ability to promote healing and bring diverse communities together.

L.A. Parks runs a program called Parks at Sunset during May for health, fitness, and mental health. DFYL facilitators will be working with many minority communities in Los Angeles. Our drum circles help connect people to each other and give them the feeling of purpose, hope, and support -- the feeling that each person and family can envision a role for themselves in our society and have a sense of greater purpose regarding contributing to their community.

Mental Health First Aid is a course that teaches you how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The training helps you identify, understand, and respond to signs of addictions and mental illnesses. DBSA City of Angels is offering this training free of charge to 30 community members.

Photo exhibit documenting lived and living experience of mental health & substance use. We will be using narrative therapy to create generative conversation around the intersection of mental health, substance use, and being unhoused. Photos will be used to provide context for panel conversation with participants on their experiences. Resources relating to these topics will be provided.
By providing support through a harm reduction framework of “meeting people where they are at," participants at our event will have opportunities to address the link between substance use and mental health through a variety of modalities. In addition to learning new skills, these events will provide opportunities for stakeholders, the community, and our participants to not only have a moment of respite, but to be celebrated, encouraged, and reminded it is “ok” to discuss mental health. Within this set up, all will have an ability to forge meaningful connections and support systems
